Vishwaroopam - Hasan's struggle with Democracy

"There is no question of curbing the freedom of speech" , this is what Jayalalitha , Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu said when the media asked her about Vishwaroopam being banned in Tamil Nadu . "I have no personal grudge, no personal interest in banning the movie," she told the media.

Vishwaroopam has become a hot topic not just in India but also on Google , giving rise to unruly debates . The movie had been banned in many parts of India due to fear of violent protests . Protests over the "anti-Muslim" film continue as personalities from varied backgrounds continue to give unpolitical statements . This isn't the first case when a film has been denied entry into the theaters . Earlier too films like Neel Akshar Neeche , Kissa Kursi ka , Fire , Water had taken a backseat for unjustified reasons , thanks to our "sensitive" government .

Kamal Hassan , one of the finest actors of India was so hurt  by the decision that he even thought of leaving India for a "secular" state  indicating the sad state of Indian democracy . Though the Madras High court ruled in favour of Vishwaroopam and lifted the ban , it left the administrative step to be taken by the government .

If a great artist like M F Hussain can do it , Kamal Hassan too can do it . Logically , Kamal Hasan is at a stage where he can consider shifting his base to USA . But the harsh reality is that we cannot afford to loose him , Indian film industry can't afford to loose  a great artist like Kamal Hassan ! Creative artists today are driven by desperation . They are no longer free to depict their creative talents unless they have the concurrence of the Government and religious fanatics .

"I have made a film that would make Indian Muslims proud" - Kamal Hassan to CNN IBN
